This is a perfect little toaster, I was skeptical at first, however, it works great on the run. I originally had a toaster oven, that takes almost 5 minutes to produce one slice of toast. This little handy toaster from Cuisinart is especially nice because it does not have a manual handle to drop the toast or bagels. it automatically lowers the toast or bagels and even pop tarts for my children, and it rises within a couple of seconds, based on your selected browning settings which go as high as four. There is an illuminated screen that shows how much longer the toast will take to finish, and if you are in a complete rush and can’t wait the remaining few seconds, you can also cancel, and it will pop up. Good purchase, thus far, and I will continue to use it for quick toast. If anything happens to change my opinion on this side of I will repost. At this point I’ve been using this item for about a week, and it works perfectly.
Update: Now that I’ve been using the toaster since January and it is now The middle of April, I can honestly say that this Is a must have in the kitchen space. Toaster ovens are great for larger items such as grilled cheese, and items that require more preparation. This toaster is absolutely perfect, for toasting bagels, and getting that chewy inside and crisp and brown on the outside. Toast is perfect, and the best part is it doesn’t take more than a few seconds For a quick on the go breakfast, from the package to the table. My toaster and my coffee maker are side-by-side and I have toast and coffee within minutes. If you’ve ever had to pry Your toast out of a toaster with a manual handle when it does not completely rise after browning, you will especially love this automated toaster. Well, worth the purchase. Using the Defrost Setting

Nice toaster with some quirks
I bought this toaster to replace a defective Hamilton Beach Classic Chrome 2 Slice Toaster. The Cuisinart CPT-420 is a decent little toaster, I especially like the "elevator" feature where the bread is automatically lowered into the toaster and automatically lifted when done. I only wish there was a way to lower the volume of the "beeps" when the toast is ready. Here are some more of my observations: When toasting two slices of bread, both pieces of toast are perfectly browned on each side. This is great! But, when toasting ONE slice of bread, you end up with a piece of toast that's perfect on the outside-facing side and burnt on the inside-facing side (doesn't matter which slot you use, the result is the same). I usually toast two slices at a time, so I can live with this shortcoming. (Warning, scientific observation ahead! I suspect that the reason for the burnt inside-facing side is because the center heating element is combined for both slots. It's essentially a single heating element wrapped around a heat-proof card that sits between the two slots. The heat output of the center element is designed to toast two slices of bread, the inside surfaces of each. But, when you toast ONE slice of bread, there isn't anything in the other slot to absorb the excess heat so the center element gets too hot and over-toasts the single slice.) Another annoyance is that the top edge of the toast sometimes catches/snags on the top edge of the slot when the toast ejects. This causes the top of the toast to fold over. A simple design change would have prevented this. And, lastly, the "doneness" control is a bit skewed. When the toaster loses power, it resets to level "4" which burns the toast. In order for me to get perfect golden-brown toast, I have to use level "2"... So that means level "1" is lightly toasted and level "7" is burnt-to-a-cinder toast. When I want to defrost bread I have to do it manually by pressing the eject button because level "1" is too hot and will ultimately toast it. Even with these shortcomings, I still like this toaster and would recommend it. **** UPDATE **** A few months after using this toaster, the button labels started wearing off. As of today (09/2016) there are no more markings on the buttons. Still a great toaster, but wish we could read the buttons.

UPDATE: After a solid week of usage I have to admit that I'm starting to appreciate this little toaster more and more. I added a photo of some solid toasting (#3 setting) and a video demonstrating the automatic loader (apologize for the background noise and background scenic objects). I think I'm settling in with #3 is for me. The "Defrost" setting for frozen items (i.e. waffles) has also been doing a good job. All in all, it's a good toaster... I encourage you to buy this one.

Original: My old toaster needed replaced and I wanted a Toaster that looked like it deserved to exist in 2019. I like the look of this toaster, and it offers a few features that are lacking from the models half its price. The lowering and raising mechanism appears to be working very solid. The controls are pretty intuitive and the audible alert when it's done is a nice simple feature. The toast seems to be cooked similarly to every model out there. It's not perfect, but let's be honest, it's just toast. I do have one complaint. I find that my preferred toast setting is between a 3 and a 4. I wish there were more settings built in or that they just stuck with an analog dial that I can tune more specifically to my liking. I have to admit though, the automatic lowering and rising brings a little smile to my face each time I use it.
