It is simple - plug it in and it heats up. When it gets to the proper temperature, the indicator light shuts off. Open the waffle iron, pour in the batter, spread it out a bit, close the cover, flip it over and come back in about 4 minutes. Or look at when the steam starts to slow down, which is another way to tell when it is done. There is no temperature to set. When it reaches the right temperature, the heat and indicator light shuts off. After cooling down a bit, the heat and indicator light comes back on, and it cycles back and forth.
My only gripe is that the “timer” is useless. It has no electrical connection to the waffle maker, so it does not know the temperature, it does not know when the waffle is done, and it does not turn off the waffle maker when it is ready. You set it to the number of whole minutes (not minutes and seconds) you think the waffle might take and it counts down the minutes (no seconds in the display). It is also very hard to see the number, so we used it once and then used our microwave’s timer instead.

I got 5 out of 6 however I love this waffle maker, it performs great every time. It gets super hot very quickly which gives me a fully cooked waffle in 3 minutes leaving the outside nice and crispy with a fluffy and soft texture well cooked crumb on the inside.
It has super deep griddles and cooks up a beautifully thick waffle, and evenly cooked everytime, and I have also tried it with other foods like grill cheese sandwiches and even plantains all comes out nicely cooked and toasted.
This is truly nonstick no need to spray with anything waffle maker, every waffle has comes right out cleanly, whether it's a regular american style waffle, or a belgium yeast based waffle, turns out perfect every time.
The timer is very helpful, to remind me that I got something cooking. The timer has nothing to do with the doneness of your waffle, you determine how long you want your batter to cook, which works well for my needs since batters tend to differ on how long they need to cook. For example if I'm cooking a traditional liege waffle I set it for 4 minutes, however a paleo liege waffle I will set
to cook for 3 minutes or less.
Since the griddle cannot be removed it makes it a bit more difficult to clean. On first use, it took me about 30 mins to clean it to get all of the melted belgium sugar pearl out of the waffle maker, or other oily residue from other batters. However because it is truly nonstick, I have found a super easy trick to aid in the cleaning process. I make up a thick flour and water batter, heat up the griddle as if cooking a waffle and pour the mixture in, let it cook for about 6 minutes, then remove the cooked flour water mixture, and repeat this process until all of the left over batter and sugar debris from it's previous use is removed. Then with mild soapy water, paper towels and a toothpick you can quickly do the rest of the detail cleaning.
And you really can't beat the price for what you get, worth every penny and then some!
Overall, the performance, ease of use, and the peak temperature of this waffle maker and price point is totally worth the extra time it takes to clean. I absolutely love this waffle maker and highly recommend to those that love creating authentic deep belgium waffles.

Now, as to the waffles. You open it and let either side rest on the counter (as shown in the product image). Pour a standard scoop of waffle batter on the center (there are recipes and directions--both were quite clear) and allow it to spread. Be generous. This waffle maker makes THICK waffles (which I like) and you will almost always ending up putting too little batter in, and end up with incomplete waffles. Anyway, pour, watch it spread (that is kind of fun) and close the lid. Wait a few minutes and flip it over--not the whole thing, just grab the handles and rotate the waffle (you will understand how to do this when you have it in front of you) and you can lift the lid in case you want to check it. I like that you can check both sides of the waffle without having to take the waffle out. You can even pop some butter (not margarine please) onto the waffle and close the lid and in 2-3 seconds (maximum) your waffle is buttered.
Use PAM cooking spray for best results--not a lot--just a quick but thorough shot to make the waffles pop right out. Also, if you use melted butter instead of oil in the recipe your waffles will taste MUCH better.
Now, let's say that you do manage to pour a teensy bit too much waffle batter into the iron. Let it spread and start to cook for a few moments before you close the lid. GENTLY close the lid and wait a few minutes before you flip it. You may dodge the bullet right there, but even if you do not, there is a circular groove (you can see this in the product shot) that catches and cooks excess batter. If you put WAY too much on this thing is SUPER easy to clean. Simply grab a few wet paper towels or a Handi-Wipe and brush it off quickly while the iron is hot. Post-waffle clean-up is non existent unless you really did pour too much batter in. Even then a green scrubby pad and a sponge works great, but be sure to hand dry this with a towel or the stainless will look crappy.
Again, this thing looks kinda flimsy and funky, but when you use it you will LOVE it and see that it really is a well-built and well-designed product. It is also super portable. You can take it anywhere you can get juice (110 AC outlet).
Hope this helps: happy waffles!

Note the timer on this thing sucks, and thankfully has absolutely no bearing on cooking and no interaction with the heating or temperature of the waffle maker. I don’t even use it and they should probably remove it from the machine. If the timer was required for this to work, I probably would have returned the machine. So glad it doesn’t even need the timer turned on to work and OK with…the waffles are that good, and I prefer one less fiddly thing to go wrong with the machine or cooking.
This machine has 1 temperature setting, pre-dialled in and perfect.
As a simple waffle iron - plug in, it heats up, you use it - I can’t imagine anything working better or more simply than this.
My usage:
Follow box mix recipe for waffles, I have used several they all work. Don’t forget to add the correct amount of oil to the batter, as per box instructions.. Don’t grease the machine at all. Zero grease on the machine ever.
Preheat until the light goes out.
Pour batter, if it’s too thick or unevenly poured, tilt the machine slightly until it’s evenly distributed. The large cool handles are perfect for this.
Close and flip. Flip again after 2 minutes. 4 minutes 30 seconds total cook time seems perfect. Don’t have to wash the machine or even wipe it down after, nothing sticks they just come right out.
