Kamp-Rite Original Tent Cot Camping Bed

The Original Tent Cot is Kamp-Rite’s innovative, multi-functional advance in off-the-ground camping gear. The fully, self-contained Tent Cot creates a private sleep shelter that stands 11” above the ground to provide comfort and protection from rocks, insects and dampness. The sturdy cot base eliminates the uncomfortable cross bars typically found with standard sleeping cots.

Set up can be done quickly, easily and alone, making it an ideal solution for both solo and group outings. Extremely versatile, the unique hinge design enables the Tent Cot to be converted to a lounge chair for day-time relaxation, or a standard style cot for sleeping under the stars or inside a larger, family-style tent. Two zippered polyester and mesh entry doors allow easy access, while the zippered polyester and mesh openings at each end provide additional air flow in warm weather.

Every year my husband goes to an outdoor concert in MN. Last year he took a conventional tent that did not hold up to some bad storms that came through the area. It took 2 days for things to dry out and he basically slept in a wet tent in a wet sleeping bag for 2 days. This year I wasn't having it so I bought him a tent kit. Lo and behold a storm rolled through the first night with heavy rain and 80MP winds. He put on the rain fly and stayed high and dry throughout the storm. His neighboring campers were surprised that he stayed dry. Not to mention that his tent stated in place throughout the storm! He now lives his tent kit after being very skeptical!! In the photo you can see a downed tree rat he woke up to nearby!!

The Original Tent Cot fits me good. I am 5'11" (181cm) and 165 pounds (75kg) and I have enough room to FEEL comfortable. I can sleep on my side and turn about inside it. When you sit into it or out of it you have to duck. The craftmanship is good, it FEELS secure, sturdy. It can be put up and taken down with ease. It is about a 32" square object when compacted. You need to buy the rainfly, if it is not included with the tent cot for assurance of staying dry. Within the Tent Cot are two pouches that hang from the top that can accomodate a portable audio device, keys, cellular telephone, wallet, ear plugs, handkerchief, and a little more small items. The loops on the zippers are large enough to add small locks. I intend to add an air mattress to feel like I am sleeping on a cloud. Ventilation is excellent. I sleep in it with a sleeping bag and bed pillow on my balcony. My ONLY wish is that it were a little wider. Kamp Rite does make an Oversized Tent Cot as well as a Double.

I brought this cot-tent for my husband for the field and it was super easy to assemble, very spacious, and light weight. The durability of the tent is fairly good it has great stability and can hold you along with you gear but the down size is if there’s heavy rain you will get soaked, so definitely purchase a tarp along with it to get you from getting flooded out. But overall even with the rain it dried out quickly and did what needed to be done.

I delayed getting one of these for a couple of years because I thought it would be cumbersome and gimmicky. NOT SO! The first time I set it up I was impressed. I was dry and comfortable in a cold wet night. For context, I am 6ft tall and weight about 185 or so. Your size will dictate how much room you have. I had plenty of wiggle room and found it pretty easy to get in and out of. Over all operation is simple once you run through it a time or two. I practiced setting it up in my small living room before my trip. I'm no genius but figuring it out wasn't hard. The instructions are well done to include color photos of what to do. The size would be awkward to back pack so it would not be a good choice for that application. I would recommend this for anyone looking for easy and quick set up (and take down) with comfort to boot. Sleeping on the ground was fine until age 25 passed me by. Just buy it.

I have had this tent cot 2 years and use it a couple nights almost every month. It comes with a bag to keep everything together. There are plenty venting options with mosquito netting for fresh air while keeping bugs outside. It also has a rain fly to keep the rain off the tent itself. The tent material is pretty thin and will make it very damp inside without the rain fly. I also use the rain fly on cold and humid nights as extra insulation and again, I slept in this thing with the whole tent fly covered in dew or ice, keeping me nice and dry. I bought the Cozzzi Folding Mattress - Trifold Foam Mattress Topper 75x25 inches and use a simple pillow and sleeping bag, and it is VERY comfortable. I usually set this thing up in about a minute, it is that easy!

No it isn't horse proof! I think one horse thought it was a couple of hay bales beside one another ....... but I scared them off. That was fun! This thing is great! After a quick fold-up I started out storing it behind the passenger seat but couldn't easily reach though to the back seat well. I optioned later to store it above some added cargo straps that I draped across the front and back sets of entrance handles, sometimes provided in cars, that will fold down to aid a person entering the vehicle. So barely enough room for the top of my head and forget the interior ceiling light, really unneeded as I have front map lights that are brighter anyway. Get the rainfly, it can be quickly placed in a strong rain if needed and then secured better once back inside the tent. When I want to entertain a breeze, I keep it folded inside should a strong rain sneak up later and wake me after a peaceful driftin' off. The storage case is nice now that it is home, but seldom used it on the road. Being separated from the somtimes wet/insect-filled ground is great but after arriving in cooler climates I debated on just what I could use as extra needed insulation below me, as the provided foam pad insert works well for stability but does little to keep out the cold. As an extra foam pad just seemed to defeat the portablilty issue, I decided on just an extra regular sleeping bag. The current small "down" bag I was using would insulate fine from the top as it would stay fluffy, but as my weight would compress the "down" below me I found it did little to keep me warm from underneath, but was exceptional to team-up with the new one as an insert. I have yet to try the giant "down" bag that was later given to me by my older brother, as I proceeded along my journey. I should mention the screening is great, I doubt the almost microscopic "No-Seeums" could even pose a problem. Also I got the more expensive version with aluminum stucture which I would strongly advise from the standpoint of less weight and freedom from possible corrosion. I even bought some pvc pipe and cheap bungee cords and made a sort of canopy using the rainfly and its zipper-open entrance.[...]

I used this product for years, camping several nights a month, and I always found it comfortable and easy to set up and put away. I camped on an extremely windy night in a sandy location and the tent cot was the only tent in our group that stood up to the wind without any problems. I plan to use it for travel camping (one night stands) and as a guest bed. I bought my first one second hand several years ago so I encountered sticker shock on buying a new one several years later - but I am satisfied with this product.

Used this for a month on a trip where a group stayed in a large structure, everyone on cots. Mine offered a bit of privacy and also, a more climate controlled environment. Ambient light was also nicely filtered to permit better sleep. Zipping the cot also kept my gear dust free and provided peace of mind that creepy crawlers would be left outside.

Cot itself was quite comfortable though I also used a sleeping pad.

I’m 6’ and just a bit over 200 lbs. no issues with the cot, though there was a bit of sagging noticed after a straight month of use. The tent cot felt surprisingly roomier inside that one would imagine.

Very pleased with my purchase though I haven’t tested it outside yet.
