Instructions for Use

1. Before using a FURminator(R) Professional Grooming Tool, perform a complete physical inspection of your pet. Look for sores, bruises and skin conditions, which may be concealed by his coat. If your pet has any of these conditions, seek treatment from a veterinarian before brushing.

2. Use gentle strokes across the pet’s coat in the direction of hair growth. Start from the head and work your way back, using extra care near the pet’s stomach, legs, genitals and anus. Focus on removing tangles or mats, but avoid making excessive strokes in a single area, instead use short, gentle strokes along your pet’s coat. If you notice any redness or irritation, discontinue use.

3. This Rake can be used before bathing to help remove mats and tangles. Always try to remove all mats and tangles before bathing. If the mats are too large for you to comfortably remove, you may need to visit a professional groomer.

4. Regular use will help remove loose hair, prevent mats and stimulate the health of the skin. Use the FURminator(R) Rake once a week for a few minutes each session to remove excess hair and debris and help keep your pet looking his best.

This dog rake is amazing! I have a rescue dog who seems to be afraid of everything to include brushes. I tested this out on my arm, the rake is very gentle and it works very well at removing the undercoat with very little effort. My other dog is the sheddingist dog on the planet, she loves the rake and will sit and wait beside it in the hopes of getting a little rake love. It works really well, my upholstery and carpets are much less furry, Id reccomend this product to anyone who needs a gentle touch. (I have even used it on my rabbit- Heir Grumpface McBitey- he loves it, and he dosen't love anything) So, if you have a freaked out furry friend, this is the best way to get shedding under control.

As a dog owner and dogsitter, there's an awful lot of fur flying around my home on any given day. I sweep and mop once a week to keep everything relatively clean and the fur at a manageable level. In the winter season, I feel as though my dog sheds at twice the rate he does in any other season, so I needed another solution than just the normal brushing and once-a-month baths. I found the rake on Amazon when searching for the Furminator because my dog owner peers recommended it. I opted for the rake because of it's low price and high ratings. This thing really works! I've noticed less hair shed and brushing him while bathing seems to add a component of relaxation to the whole bathing experience. Brushing against the direction of the fur works remarkably. Unlike ordinary brushes, the fur doesn't clump. It is easy to remove since the spaces between each pin in the brush is large.

Love this product and I'll definitely recommend it to all of my dog owner pals!

PS. My dog is a Hound/Catahoula mix that has what seems like a two-layer thick coat of fur. It's not super thin and soft nor is it super thick and coarse.

This works well on my husky as part of a 3 step system. First I use the Dog Rake which gets the fur from his under coat off and it doesn't hurt him. Then I use the deshedding tool to get the rest of the loose fur. I finish off with the dual head slicker brush. I use both sides the coarser side first then the slicker side. The whole process takes about 15 -20 minutes and for my husky I do it once a week except during winter which I only do once a month. There is not nearly as much loose hair now around the house and when I vacuum and dust. The rake is sturdy and gets into the double coat of my husky. Starting from the inside out is the best way to get all the hair.

This is the best brush I’ve ever used to get tangles and mats out of my ragdoll’s fur. I’ve tried many other types of brushes and none were that effective at reaching his fur closest to his skin. The rotating spokes help to not pull his skin as much, and he tolerated this brush better than any of the other ones in terms of how long it took before he was trying to bite and scratch me (he hates being brushed, even hated it when a kitten). It also doesn’t take a ton of fur off like the regular furmunator brush does. The only improvement I’d make is I wish the handle was longer or adjustable so I could brush him without being so close to him because he does try and kill me when he grows tired of being brushed and I can’t scriff him when I’m trying to brush his neck, so doing it from afar would be helpful! I also like the silicone cover it comes with for the spokes and that it doesn’t have any cutting blades that tend to dull after just a few uses!

Our german shepard's favorite past time seems to be shedding all over our house. This brush has helped immensely with that issue. We get loads of hair in this brush. It should be noted that this brush does not do a great job of trapping hair so I would still recommend doing this outside or with a shop vac at the ready. Good price and good quality. We leave it outside where it gets lots of sun and it hasn't broken down on us yet or lost any tines. We actually started using this brush in tandem with a fine-tined brush for best results.

I have an Australian Shepherd with a long, baby-fine coat. He comes in from the pasture with his coat full of cockleburs and sandburs among many other clinging things. He mats easily. Brushing him is always a battle because it hurts. Not so with this grooming tool. I hadn't known about "rounded pins that fully rotate". I couldn't imagine what kind of difference those would make. They make a huge difference. My Aussie no longer fights brushing. Some of the older mats have taken some time, but he isn't hurt in the process. Do not hesitate to try this product. Update - I lost my first Furminator. Knowing that I must have exactly this tool for easily grooming my Aussie, I purchased another. Sadly, this second one soon began to loose the teeth on each end. I use this on my bernedoodle and it works well for the most part. I use a slicker brush to comb through the fur before I use this rake. This pulls a little more than I was hoping which makes the dog a little ansy, but if I use the slicker brush first then it isn't a problem. I definitely wouldn't use this as the only brush if you have a big shaggy, THICK curly haired dog. This rake does do a pretty good job pulling out hair and helps thin the undercoat out.
I am still on the hunt to find a brush that will break up mats nicely when the little ones start up behind the armpits, this just wasn't it.
